MIAMI (AP) — U.S. Coast Guard crews have rescued nine people who were clinging to the hull of an overturned boat seven nautical miles east of Miami.
The Coast Guard got a report of a capsized vessel from 911 dispatchers in Miami-Dade County around 1 a.m. Wednesday. A boat crew and a helicopter were sent to the scene.
The boat arrived at the location and rescued nine people from the water.
Officials say one person was flown to Station Miami Beach where emergency crews were waiting. There was no word on that person's condition, or the conditions of the other survivors.
The Coast Guard says a Miami-Dade police helicopter is also assisting in the search for other possible survivors.
No further details were immediately available.
