BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - It's open season when it comes to political shots. Governor David Paterson says Republican Carl Paladino is unfit to be governor.
Paladino campaign manager Michael Caputo fired back saying, "The attack on Carl Paladino by David Paterson, the most corrupt and incompetent governor in New York history, is laughable."
Paladino, himself, was firing back after an open letter to New Yorkers states that the Buffalo developer, "practices a destructive brand of politics that will divide our state." The letter is signed by former senator Al D'Amato, former New York City mayor Ed Koch and former state comptroller h. Carl Mcall.
"These people are all lobbyists. They're all about money. They're not about saying the right thing for the people of the state of New York. They want the status quo," said Paladino.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, the Democratic candidate for governor, was asked about his Buffalo opponent.
Cuomo said, "I don't know Mr. Paladino, and I don't think my characterization is all that relevant or appropriate, you know. Whatever works for him, fine. But, you know, he'll run his campaign and I'll run my campaign."
Paladino is getting a lot of media exposure these days. Some of it is not so flattering. Take the front page of the New York Daily News. The headline reads, "Meet Crazy Carl!" He's also getting national television exposure by appearing on CNN and the CBS Evening News.
"We're just going to go get our message out there, as best we can. And the people will respond. You saw the response the other day. People are fed up with the status quo," said Paladino.
Paladino wants a series of debates with Cuomo. The Cuomo camp said on Thursday that they're open to debating, and that the campaigns will have to discuss the usual details.
