LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) - With just a few days before the general election, the race for the 27th Congressional District is hitting the home stretch.
Both candidates were out in full force Thursday, motivating people to get out and vote. Representative Kathy Hochul greeted patrons at a restaurant in Niagara Falls while her challenger Chris Collins talked to voters at a diner in Lockport.
Hochul said, "We are crisscrossing this district, and the reception has been amazing. So many Republicans are saying they're looking forward to voting for me. They might be voting for Romney at the top of the ticket, but they're also voting for me for Congress because they know I'm an independent individual who fights for the district."
Collins said, "I'm also reminding people that some of the commercials that are about me are absolute lies. They've been discredited by every fact checker. They were a bit harsh, but they're not true."
Hochul has presented herself as a moderate Democrat who doesn't always follow President Obama. And Collins touts his record a job creator with more than 30 years experience in the private sector.
