BUFFALO, NY - A Newfane dentist has been sentenced to 15 months in prison andthree years of supervised release for filing false health careclaims.
Scott D. Geise, 48, of Newfane Family Dentistry, plead guilty tofiling a false health care claim and filing a false tax return.
Geise’s trial had already begun with witnesses beingcalled when he decided to take a plea.
Judge Arcara also ordered Geise to pay restitution in the amountof $40,022.85 to the insurance companies that he defrauded and$87,781.97 to the Internal Revenue Service for taxes owed.
“In this time of rising health care costs and premiums,health care fraud is something my office will not tolerate on anylevel” said U.S. Attorney Hochul. “When the health caresystem is defrauded, it drives up costs for everyone, especiallythose who can least afford it.”
