NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - While researching a story about a 22-year-old fisherman who fell into the Niagara River on Sunday and is feared drowned, News 4 uncovered video showing dangerous behavior along the waterway.
A video posted online shows a young man jumping into the swift moving river from a low hanging tree branch. Police say this type of behavior puts lives in jeopardy. Not only the lives of those jumping into the water, but the lives of those who may be called to rescue them if trouble arises.
Lt. Patrick Moriarty of the State Park Police said, "Those subjects are clearly, they're violating the law. Very dangerous. Again, anyone that is going off the trail and they're getting that close to the water or jumping into the water, you're taking an extreme chance."
Police say if they are able to identify the person in this video, charges could placed against him.
