JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) - Nushawn Williams is staying in jail and will not be paroled. Heexpressed remorse according to the decision by the parole board,but the man many know as Nushawn William was denied his freedomonce again.
Nushawn Williams, who now goes by Shyteek Johnson willremain behind bars for another year. Monday morning, the paroleboard changed his earliest release status from April of 2009 to,April 2010.
Authorities said the 32-year-old knowingly spread the deadlyvirus that causes AIDS to several Jamestown and NYC women in thelate 90s.
He also had sexual relations with a 13 and a 15-year-oldgirl. A copy of the parole decision reads:
"Your barbaric and perverse actions committed upon yourunsuspecting and defenseless victims clearly demonstrates theextremely grave danger you pose to society."
According to Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace, thelaws haven't changed much to address a crime involving those whoknowingly spread HIV.
"There's been some modification to the laws but we wouldstill be in the same type of predicament when trying to findcharges that fit the crime."
Sheriff Gerace said this case isn't just about protecting thepublic from the Shyteek Johnson's of the world, but people takeresponsibility to protect themselves.
Chautauqua County Sheriff Joseph Gerace said, "We have toprotect ourselves against each other because we don't know in thisday and age, how many people we're sleeping with when we sleep withsomebody. They have other partners that may have sexuallytransmitted diseases. And it's something we have to think of withnot just Nushawn Williams buteverybody."
