NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Cory Booker's campaign is downplaying the disclosure of Twitter exchanges he had with a stripper.
Booker is the Democratic mayor of Newark, N.J., and a U.S. Senate candidate. He exchanged direct messages earlier this year with Portland, Ore., stripper Lynsie Lee.
Lee provided a screenshot of the exchange to the website BuzzFeed. She works at a vegan strip club in Oregon.
In the exchange, Lee told Booker the West Coast loved him. Booker, who is single, said the East Coast loves her, "and by the East Coast, I mean me."
Lee responded she was blushing. Booker replied "it's only fair."
Lee didn't return an email seeking comment.
Booker has more than a million Twitter followers. His campaign says the mayor is always "accessible to regular people."
