TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts is bolstering his standing with fellow Kansas Republicans with new endorsements for his re-election campaign next year.
The Roberts campaign announced Wednesday that it has received the formal endorsement of the Kansas State Rifle Association. The group is a visible advocate of gun rights, and gun-rights supporters are a core GOP constituency.
Roberts also was endorsed Wednesday by state Senate President Susan Wagle of Wichita and state House Speaker Ray Merrick of Stilwell.
Roberts' campaign committee includes Gov. Sam Brownback, other statewide elected officials and every other member of the state's all-GOP congressional delegation.
He is seeking his fourth six-year term in the U.S. Senate. No Democrat has publicly announced plans to run.
