Buffalo, N.Y. (WIVB) - News 4 Senior correspondent Rich Newberg has learned that theCity may be close to hiring 55 new Buffalo firefighters.
Sources tell Newberg that as many as 140 potential recruits havebeen interviewed by fire officials.
The new firefighters must meet certain civil servicerequirements as well as pass an agility test.
Back in May, News 4 reported that the mayor’s budgetprovided for 55 new hires. The Brown Administration would notcomment on how imminent the hiring may be.
Newberg has learned that the fire department is hoping that theannouncement could come as soon as the end of this week. Nobreakdown in race or gender is known at this point.
