ORCHARD PARK, NY (WIVB) - Tight ends have killed the Bills, with 5 TD in the last 3 games. Maybe now, the Bills can start to return the favor. Monday, the team activated tight end Shawn Nelson off the suspended list.
To make room on the roster, they released linebacker Chris Ellis.
Nelson was suspended by the NFL in the offseason for violating the substance abuse policy. He was forced to miss the first four games. Groin surgery during that time prevented Nelson from playing Sunday against the Jaguars. The second-year player was a 4th round draft pick in 2009, with hopes that his speed and athleticism could help the Bills passing game. Nelson had just 17 catches during his rookie year. Jonathan Stupar and David Martin haved filled the position through the first five games.
Ellis actually started the first two games at outside linebacker for the injured Reggie Torbor. He played but did not make a tackle Sunday against Jacksonville. A former thrid round draft pick in 2008, he is just another premium draft choice that is no longer on the Bills roster.
The team will practice Wednesday through Friday and take the bye weekend off.
