TORONTO (WIVB) - Better is still not good enough. For the third straight week, the Bills were competitive in a game that went right down to the wire. But for the third straight week, they weren't good enough to win. A Chicago touchdown with 6:41 led the Bears to a 22-19 win over the Bills, dropping Buffalo to 0-8 and 0-3 at game played in Toronto.
Ryan Fitzpatrick threw two late interceptions. The first led to the Berars go-ahead score. The second ended any Bills chance of a late tying field goal. The Bills QB was 31/51, 299 yards, 1 TD, 2 Interceptions and 1 sack.
The Bills outgained the Bears 340-283, but rushed for just 46 yards. The Bills had 3 turnovers.
Steve Johnson had a huge game for the Bills, with 11 catches for 145 yards. The receptions total is a new career high.
"I'd lose a million games with these guys," said Johnson, "there's no quit in them."
Jay Cutler's TD pass to tight end Greg Olson put Chicago up 7-0 in the second quarter. Its the 8th touchdown caught by a tight end against the Bills defense this season.
But a Fitzpatrick to Roscoe Parrish 14 yard TD tied the game at seven heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, a Chester Taylor TD run put the Bears up 14-7. The Bills answered with an 80 yard drive. A Steve Johnson 45 catch led to a Fred Jackson 4 yard TD. But Rian Lindell's extra point was blocked, the first miss of his NFL career. The score was 14-13 Bears.
The Bills took the lead in the fourth after recovering a fumble on a Spencer Johnson sack. Corey McIntyre's first NFL score put the Bills up 19-14. They missed the two point attempt.
But then Fitzpatrick was intercepted by Tim Jennings, who returned the ball to the 23 yards line. Johnson said the deep ball was "underthrown." Six plays later, Jay Cutler hit Earl Bennett for a score, and they added the two points for the 22-19 final.
Paul Posluszny and Jairus Byrd led the Bills with 10 tackles.
The Bills host the Detroit L:ions next Sunday.
