Bills Training Camp - It's a two-headed monster at left guard for now, for the Buffalo Bills at training camp.
Two year starter Andy Levitre is splitting first team reps with journeyman Chad Rinehart this week. Head Coach Chan Gailey made the move Tuesday, and Wednesday night was Levitre's turn to get the first team reps. In Thursday's final training camp workout, Rinehart is expected to run wit the first team.
The left guard shuffle came as a surprise to Levitre. But after Wednesday night's practice, he said he sat down and talked with Offensive Line Coach Joe D'Alessandris earlier in the day. And Levitre says he has a better understanding of what the coaching staff is looking for.
"I spoke to the O-Line Coach today and got what I wanted to hear out of it, " Levitre told News 4 Sports. "More specific things, a couple of things I have to work on. Hopefully I can get that cleaned up by the end of preseason if not sooner."
The final night time workout was another rough night for the Buffalo offense. And linebacker Nick Barnett punctuated the defensive dominance with a couple of hard hits on Wildcat QB Brad Smith, when he tried to run out of the shotgun.
"It's not often you get a tough quarterback like that," Barnett said. "You can hit him a little bit. It's been fun. He's delivered some to me, too. Now I know when I see him out there, I have to bring something."
The Bills 2011 training camp is winding down, with the final workout in Rochester Thursday afternoon at 2:20pm. The Bills have had three weeks to eyeball their young prospects, and a couple of young players have been standouts.
"There have been several," GM Buddy Nix told News 4 Sports. "Our second round pick, Aaron Williams, has been better than we whought he'd be early. And Safety Da'Norris Searcy has also been good."
Linebacker Shawne Merriman got another night off Wednesday to rest his surgically repaired achilles. Wide receiver Roscoe Parrish, who's been out for a week with a hamstring pull, was in pads on Wednesday but did not participate fully in practice.
