ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - While the Bills were busy trimming down their current roster, they also made sure Eric Wood would be a member of the roster for several seasons to come. The Bills center signed a contract extension today.
Wood was entering the final year of his rookie deal.
"All along I knew I wanted to stay here," said Wood. "Especially with the direction we’re going and to watch them make the playoffs without me…it’s going to be a special time and when we do it this year, if I would have missed it in years to come, I would’ve never forgave myself."
The team allowed free agent guard Andy Levitre to leave via free agency this year, and also failed to sign safety Jairus Byrd to a long-term extension before applying the franchise tag. The Bills made sure the same type of situation would not happen with Wood.
"When you talk about Eric Wood, you talk about leadership and with a young team and we’re trying to instill a lot of different values at this time, we need a leader and he’s a strong leader," said General Manager Doug Whaley. "He’ll be able to lead us to where we need to go."
