MIAMI (AP) — The Miami Heat waived forward Jarvis Varnado and guards Larry Drew II and Charlie Westbrook on Monday, getting their roster down to 17 players.
Varnado was a member of the Heat last season, appearing in 13 regular-season games for the NBA champions. He averaged 2.0 points and 2.3 rebounds in six preseason games this fall.
Westbrook appeared in four preseason games with the Heat, averaging 2.5 points. Drew logged six minutes of preseason time for Miami.
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said he will likely take the entirety of this week before making other cuts. The Heat have to get down to no more than 15 players for opening night, and it's still not totally certain if they will open the season with even that many on the roster.
