SPRINGVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - Buffalo Sabres star, Patrick Kaleta believes "If you build it,they will come".
Kaleta plans to build a rink of dreams.
Buffalo Sabres Forward, Patrick Kaleta grew up in Angola, wentto St. Francis High School and achieved his dream of playing forthe Sabres.
"My goal is just to have every kid have a dream and hopefully Ican help in them achieving it," he exclaimed.
That's why he's buying a four acre parcel of land in Springvilleto build a hockey rink and start a foundation called HITS.
Patrick explained, "Helping others to smile. It's a generalizedfoundation where we try to help underprivileged kids in the area toparticipate in hockey and other sports."
His uncle, Mike Kaleta is the Springville Building Inspectorwho's part of the project to build a vinyl dome over a hockey rinknext to an indoor field for soccer of lacrosse right behind theSpringville Wal-Mart.
And it just so happens the Sabres were replacing the hockeyboards in HSBC Arena, so the Kaleta's bought the old ones for$20,000 to use for the Springville rink.
"They look brand new, I mean they don't look abused," Mikesaid.
There is no hockey rink within 20 miles of Springville and maycatch interest from neighboring towns.
"I'm hoping like Ellicottville, Gowanda, Collins, Holland,Arcade," Mike also said.
Kaleta said, "It means a lot. I had the opportunity of playingsports when I was younger and I know some kids in the area don'treally have the chance to do it."
The Kaleta's hope to close on the property on Friday, startbuilding next summer and possibly have it up and running by thefollowing winter.
