RALEIGH, N.C. (WIVB) - The Sabres spotted Carolina an early lead and never pulled even again, falling 4-3 Tuesday night.
Just 1:31 into the game, Jiri Tlusty scored to give Carolina a 1-0 lead. The 'Canes also registered the only goal of the second period, with Joe Corvo's power play strike.
Trailing 2-0 going into the third period, Buffalo quickly found the net on Cody Hodgson's rebound goal to cut the lead to 2-1.
That scored lasted all of 50 seconds, when Jussi Jokinen pushed Carolina's lead back to two.
Buffalo's power play unit, ranked dead last in the NHL going into the game, finally found the net when T.J. Brennan sent a blast past Justin Peters to again pull the Sabres within one.
Again, Carolina would provide a quick answer. Alexander Semin scored 1:40 seconds later to push the score to 4-2.
Cody Hodgson provided the highlight of the night, weaving through Carolina's defense for a late goal, but that would be as close as Buffalo would get in the 4-3 loss.
The Sabres stay on the road for a matchup at New Jersey Thursday night.
