BUFFALO, NY (WIVB.com) - Many teams around the NHL were busy signing and trading players on Friday, when the free agency signing period began. The Buffalo Sabres did not make any moves.
The more notable signings of the day included Daniel Alfredsson, who went to the Red Wings, Nathan Horton who went to the Columbus Blue Jackets and Jarome Iginla, who inked a deal with the Bruins.
Rumors have circulated about trades that would include either Ryan Miller or Thomas Vanek. Both players survived Friday.
Thomas Vanek's agent, Steve Bartlett, told News 4 Sports via email, "Any trade is out of his control, so he is just expecting to be ready for camp in Buffalo unless something changes."
It is still possible for a trade to happen. GM Darcy Regier has stressed that he wants to focus on building the team around the young talent.
