AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - Danny White is nearly a year into his tenure as Athletic Director at U.B., and he has a clear vision of where the athletics department is heading.
"We're 14 years into this, as a I-A athletic department, but the handcuffs are off," said White.
White sees unlimited potential for U.B. sports, using the school's academic profile as a starting point in comparing the Bulls to some of the big-time D-I schools.
"If you take away college athletics, just look at the institution... we look like the institutions that compete at the very highest levels of college athletics," said White.
The difficult part is getting local fans and alumni to buy into that notion. To help make that more of a reality, one of White's biggest goals is showcasing UB sports as a brand, while also reaching out to alumni.
With that process already underway, White is focusing on upgrading the school's facilities as well. The plans include club-level seating at football games, and eventually a field house.
"UB Stadium has a space that's just begging to be a club level, so we're going to finish that out," said White. "We've already had architects design the space... plan to have that open for 2015."
With that plan, White says he is trying to enhance the experience for UB fans and alumni, while also bringing in another revenue stream to go back into the program.
