Shannon Shepherd joins News 4 after two years in Syracuse as a sports reporter for WSYR. Prior to her time in New York state, Shepherd was the weekend sports anchor at WSAW in Wausau, Wisconsin.
While this is her first professional job in western New York, Shannon is no stranger to the area. She is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University and covered the Bonnies' NCAA tournament runs in 2012. Upon graduating, St. Bonaventure's school of journalism named her the Mark Hellinger award winner. That same year she was named the Buffalo Broadcast Association's "Tim Russert medal of merit" award winner, given annually to the most outstanding college journalist in WNY.
She has also spent every summer of her life in Angola-on-the-Lake helping her family's restaurant, Connors Hot Dog Stand, which has been a fixture in the southtowns for 72 years.
During her time in Syracuse, Shannon followed the Orange men's and women's basketball programs daily. One of her most memorable moments was covering Syracuse University's self-imposed postseason ban, when Jim Boeheim announced his plans for retirement.
Shannon is excited to tell the stories of local high school and college athletes who make Buffalo special.
On her days off, Shannon enjoys going to the beach on Lake Erie and following her beloved St. Bonaventure Bonnies. You can contact her with a story idea at Shannon.Shepherd@WIVB.com or on Twitter @ShannonShep4.
