GOWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A young child was found inside a house of squalor Tuesday night, according to the Erie County Sheriff’s Office. Officials say they made two arrests when executing a search warrant in Gowanda.
After multiple complaints of drug activity at the Union Street home, deputies executed a search warrant and say they found crack cocaine. The sheriff’s office says there was garbage scattered around the home and rotten food inside a broken refrigerator.
Deputies say a young child was living in the home in these conditions, without about edible food. Deputies say occupants in the home were intoxicated by either drugs, alcohol or both.
Deputies arrested the child’s mother, 42-year-old Alissa C. Jones, and charged her with endangering the welfare of a child and drug charges. Deputies also arrested 30-year-old Eric K. Pierce and charged him with endangering the welfare of a child. Both were taken to the Erie County Holding Center.
The child was taken to a relative for the night and a report was filed with Child Protective Services.
