OAKFIELD, N.Y. (WIVB) - Deputies quickly tracked down three Albion men they say were caught by a homeowner stealing items from his barn.
The Genesee County Sheriff's Office was called to Lockport Road in the Town of Oakfield around 2:30 a.m. on Friday on reports of a burglary in progress. The homeowner told authorities he had found two people inside his barn and that the young men had fled on foot when he confronted them. The homeowner says they had been taking electrical wire and copper tubing that had been attached to the barn.
Deputies got a description of the vehicle and caught up to it as it was traveling at a high rate of speed on Lockport Road. The driver didn't stop for authorities at first, instead turning onto Fisher Road, where after a short time he pulled over.
All three people inside the car were arrested and charged with third degree burglary and unlawful possession of marijuana, including 20-year-old Scott Miller, 20-year-old Evan Shaffer, and 19-year-old Hayden Ettinger.
Deputies say they found items in the suspects' vehicle that had been stolen from the neighbor of the man who initially called 911. Authorities say additional burglary charges against the three are possible.
After being arraigned, all three were taken to the Genesee County Jail in lieu of bail.
