AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - Thirty-three pounds of pot are now off the streets thanks to a Friday evening drug bust in Amherst.
Deputies say they arrested 40 year-old Minh Chi Huynh following an investigation lasting several months.
When deputies confronted Huynh, who is from Brooklyn, they say he tried to run, flinging away a suitcase filled with approximately 8 lbs of marijuana. The trunk of his vehicle held 25 more pounds of marijuana. Huynh was apprehended after a short foot chase.
In a press conference Sheriff Tim Howard said, "Certainly this is not a record in western New York, it's certainly a very significant quantity, obviously, very involved operation, the way you see it packaged in a single delivery at this point by one individual is somewhat unusual."
The street value of the drugs is estimated at $150,000.
