Christy Kern

Christy is a Western New York native, originally from Orchard Park. She anchors the 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. newscasts.

Christy joined the WIVB team in March 2016 as the solo anchor for the launch of News 4 at 4, the first 4 p.m. newscast in the market. She also helped launch the station’s 6:30 p.m. newscast in January 2018, which is also the first in the market.

Christy’s worked as an anchor and reporter in several areas around the country before moving back home to Buffalo.

She moved home from Southwest Florida, where she worked as an anchor and reporter at WZVN in Fort Myers from 2013 – 2016. Christy started at the station as a reporter covering the Naples area as a one-man-band, but quickly moved up the ladder to a weekend anchor role after just a few months.

Before that, Christy worked as a reporter and fill-in anchor at WCTI in New Bern, North Carolina. She covered Eastern Carolina, from Greenville to the Crystal Coast, and the two Marine Corps bases in the area.

She started her career just two weeks after college graduation at WBKB in Alpena, Michigan. There, she worked as an anchor, reporter and producer. She also hosted the weekly talk show, Insights Into Northeast Michigan and even anchored the weather forecasts on the weekends!

Christy graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Bonaventure University. Her  broadcast experience began in college at the campus news station, SBU-TV. She was awarded the Koop Award, which is given to one senior who shows promise in the broadcast field. She completed four internships at local news stations in Buffalo during college.

From the time she was young, Christy enjoyed writing and telling stories. She took her first journalism class at Orchard Park High School and knew it was the right fit.

Christy lives in Western New York with her husband, Ben, and their two cats. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time on the beach and cheering on the Bills. She’s also a proud member of the Polish community in Western New York and enjoys volunteering with Hospice Buffalo.

Christy loves telling your stories and wants to hear from you. You can email her at christy.kern@wivb.com. You can also find her on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
