NORTH BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – You picked Kostas as the winner of Buffalo’s Best Greek Restaurant!
The Pozantidis family came to the United States from Greece in 1970, with the goal of one day, opening a restaurant dedicated to their heritage. “It was a dream of ours you know,” said owner Elias Pozantidis.
Seven years filled with hard work went by and Kostas Family Restaurant opened its doors. “We have our customers that have been coming in here since day one,” said Pozantidis. “We’ve plugged along and 42 years later here we are.”
Since then it’s gone through four expansions. And has become the hot spot on Hertel for a good, authentic, Greek breakfast lunch or dinner. “Slovaki, chicken, beef, of course we have all our signature Greek dishes and everything is made from scratch,” he said.
Cooking is a one of Elia’s passions. “Scrambling eggs is not just throwing a couple eggs in a scrambler and beating them up,” he said. “There’s an art to cooking.”
He says his team strives for perfection and that’s what sets them apart. “We take pride in what we put on the plate,” he said. “If I don’t like how the plate look it does not leave the kitchen.”
But it’s not only the food that keeps patrons coming back for more, it’s the family atmosphere.
“People are very engaging with you, they’re very warm with you,” said patron, Norma Nowak. “When I come in for breakfast she (the waitress) actually knows what Im going to order.”
“Our customers are our friends you know,” said Pozantidis. “We’ve grown together, and with the City of Buffalo and we’re very humbled with that.”
