CLARENCE, N.Y. (WIVB) — We’re on the hunt for Buffalo’s Best, and this week, News 4 viewers voted to say Hayes Seafood House serves up Buffalo’s Best seafood.
Operating out of it’s location on Main Street in Clarence since the early 2000s, Hayes Seafood House offers both a restaurant and fresh seafood counter.
“We have trucks that come in from boston almost four times a week,” said owner Robert Jaus. “By using the fresh fish and cooking it properly, we have a good concept here.”
That’s how it has been since 1877, when Hayes Seafood was started.
Jaus’ grandfather joined the business in 1902 and bought it in 1922, and it’s been a family affair for most of the last century. Jaus’ daughter works in the kitchen. His son-in-law is now the manager.
“On Fridays, we have everybody. Even people that have other jobs help us,” Jaus said.
Fridays during Lent are some of the busiest days of the year at Hayes Seafood House. On any Lenten Friday, around 500 pounds of haddock goes out the door. Because demand is so high, customers are encouraged to call ahead if they’d like to place a fish fry order: (716) 632-1772.
It’s no surprise that demand is high at Hayes Seafood House. After all, it serves up Buffalo’s Best seafood.
“Really proud to work here and proud of the seafood. It’s a real special place and I’m glad all the customers voted for us and feel the same way,” manager Nick Pyzikiewicz said.
