NEW YORK (WSYR-TV) — SUNY schools began training students Saturday for a mental health program that encourages those in college to reach out to their peers showing signs of depression or distress.

It gives them the knowledge to help direct their peer to counseling centers and other resources.

A select group of 500 students is preparing for the program before expanding the training to more students in the future.
