Author of book on women in wars speaks at Daemen College

A new book highlights the role of women in combat around the world.

Dr. Alexis Henshaw is the author of Insurgent Women: Female Combatants in Civil Wars. The book examines how women have been a part of civil conflicts.

She talked about her book and her research Monday night at Daemen College.

“Cases like we’ve seen recently, women who have contributed or supported ISIS, are really not all that unusual,” Henshaw said. “So, there’s a real need to understand why we are getting engaged in these groups, and how we can potentially disengage them.”

This lecture was part of Daemen College’s recognition of Women’s History Month.
