ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo Bills tight end Tommy Sweeney is out for the rest of the season after a cardiologist discovered he has myocarditis, a condition linked to COVID-19.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott announced to media in the weekly coaches press conference on Monday that Sweeney was set to return to the field this week. After being placed on the PUP list before the start of the season with a foot injury, Sweeney had cleared every benchmark to return until he visited with the team cardiologist, as per new NFL rules set in place this season.

Sweeney was placed on the COVID-19/Reserve list in Week 7 after coming into close contact with TE Dawson Knox, who tested positive that week.
