Buffalo Police: Suspect in traffic stop shot, following altercation with officers

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Buffalo Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened Sunday night.

At about 10:40 p.m. Sunday night, two officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Lonsdale Road and Northland Avenue.

According to police, during the course of that traffic stop, a rear seat passenger exited the vehicle during some type of altercation with officers, resulting in a foot chase and the suspect being shot.

The suspect, a 30-year-old Buffalo man, was immediately transported to ECMC with non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and released.

A gun believed to have been in the suspect’s possession was recovered at the scene.

The suspect is currently in custody on a separate parole violation and charges related to ignoring officers’ commands are pending in Sunday night’s incident.

Buffalo Police Homicide and Internal Affairs and the Erie County District Attorney’s Office are investigating.
