For the first time since 2008, the UB football team will be playing for the Mid-American Conference Championship.

The Bulls picked up a program record 10th win, beating Bowling Green 44-14 in the season finale to win the MAC East Division title and advance to the league championship in Detroit.

Buffalo will square off against Northern Illinois, which is making its seventh appearance in the last nine years.

After punting on their opening possession of the game, UB struck first with Jaret Patterson racing for a 40-yard touchdown to give Buffalo a 7-0 lead.

The Falcons would answer with a TD of their own, but their defense wouldn’t be able to stop the Bulls, who ultimately scored on four of their five possessions to end the first half.

Leading 13-7 after Tyree Jackson connected with George Rushing for a touchdown,  the Bulls defense answered with a TD of its own as Brandon Williams returned a fumble 69 yards to give UB a 19-7 advantage.

Jackson threw for 151 yards passing before exiting in the second half.

UB’s best series would come late in the half with Jackson manufacturing a 17-play, seven-minute drive which was highlights by Kevin Marks running in from a yard out make it a 34-7 game at halftime.

Marks would add his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter before the backups were put into the game.
