EAST AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) – The students at Casey Middle School got to spend their Friday learning outside of the classroom for Creativity Day.
“Learning is amazing. It is exciting, it’s fun, but especially when you can learn about what you love, and when you have some choice about what you learn,” explains Fran McGreevy, the Principal of Casey Middle School. It’s that choice the students have that’s key. Among six assemblies throughout the day, students got to choose what they wanted to learn from a list of over 30 activities ranging from astronomy and photography, to gardening and baking.
“Every one of our kids we believe is totally gifted. They are filled with life and adventure, and a desire for learning. We want to unlock that, we want to get that part of them going.”
The activities taught by teachers, parents, and community volunteers gave the students opportunities to explore areas they may not have otherwise. It was a day designed to inspire, nurture creativity, and get kids excited to come to school, and for that it was a great success.
