AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) — After an underground meth lab was discovered in Amherst last week, police in the town have made an arrest.

Now living in Warren County, Peter Miller, 18, is a former resident of Amherst.

The lab he was accused of trying to make methamphetamine in was found underground, beneath a Sheridan Drive Walmart parking lot on August 8.

That day, crews in hazmat suits could be seen entering a manhole in the parking lot and bringing out cans and bottles containing liquid.

No meth was actually found in the lab, but authorities say they found the chemicals and materials to make it there.

“What we did have was the precursor to methamphetamine,” Amherst Police Capt. Scott Chamberlin said.

Authorities believe Miller used a large culvert entrance to access the lab.

He was charged with third-degree unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine — a felony.

Miller currently remains in the Erie County Holding Center on $5,000 and will return to court on September 7.
