Buffalo man admits to helping son with 17 robberies

TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Buffalo man has admitted to helping his son with 17 different robberies.

Duane Loyd, 47, pleaded guilty to bank robbery and brandishing a firearm. His son, Brandon Loyd, is set to be sentenced in November.

Prosecutors say Duane drove the getaway car in all of the robberies while his son went into the stores and robbed the clerks of cash.

During a bank robbery in December of 2015, the father and son drove a rental car to a KeyBank branch on Delaware Ave. in the Town of Tonawanda.

Brandon was 19 at the time. After pointing a gun at the tellers and several customers, he fled back to the vehicle with stolen cash, prosecutors say.

Police chased the vehicle, which eventually crashed. Officers then tackled the Loyds and recovered a loaded 9mm pistol and the money stolen from the bank.

Prosecutors say $4,500 in cash was stolen during 16 of the robberies.

Duane Loyd will be sentenced on January 25.
