Buffalo man gets 25 years to life in prison for strangling aunt

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for killing his aunt.

Luis Lopez-Rivera, 28, was convicted of murdering 47-year-old Maria Rivera. She was strangled in her apartment on Sobieski St. in Buffalo in February of last year.

Lopez-Rivera was convicted of second-degree murder in March.

In addition to his prison sentence, Lopez-Rivera was also ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.
