Cheektowaga-Sloan substitute teacher charged with possessing child porn

Teacher Arrested

A substitute teacher and coach at Cheektowaga-Sloan Union Free School District, specifically at JFK middle and high school, has been charged with possessing child pornography.

33-year-old Steven Gasiorek of Buffalo and coach for the district’s boys JV basketball and football teams and the boys 7th 8th and 9th-grade baseball team was placed under arrest.

Authorities say Gasiorek used Instagram and pretended to be a teenage girl from California in order to get a 14-year-old boy from Virginia to send pornographic images of himself.

In exchange, Gasiorek sent the boy pornographic images of an unknown female, the criminal complaint against Gasiorek says.

Police there spoke with the victim and his parents before contacting the Cheektowaga Police Department, who was able to obtain a search warrant to search Gashorek’s home and laptop.

Investigators say they found several pictures of other victims on the laptop, and are now urging them to come forward with information.

US Attorney James Kennedy says their investigation shows Gashorek has been doing this for several years – even as long as a decade. It’s also believed he knew some of the victims personally, either through his work as a substitute teacher or coach.

“Today’s charge is one more reminder that children attending our schools, playing on our sports teams and communicating in our homes are at risk of becoming victims of child exploitation. Talk to your kids about this case,” Kennedy said.

In a statement, Cheektowaga Sloan union free school district superintendent Andrea Galenski says the district was just made aware of these allegations, and that Gashorek is no longer in any of the school’s buildings.
