A jet skier has been charged with boating while intoxicated (BWI).

The Marine Unit of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office stopped a jet skier on Thursday night while they say he was riding in Buffalo’s Outer Harbor after sunset.

According to them, he showed signs of impairment and was brought to shore for sobriety tests.

After deputies say he refused the tests, Nicholas Bammel, 23, of Orchard Park, was arrested.

In addition to BWI, Bammel was charged with operating a personal watercraft after sunset and operating a craft without a safety certificate.

Bammel was released to a sober third party.
