Man sentenced to 1 year in jail after striking man in wheelchair with truck

Crime

After a hit-and-run that injured a man in a motorized wheelchair, 34-year-old Amherst resident Mark Hicks has been sentenced to one year in jail.

Back in February, Hicks was driving a pickup truck on Vulcan St. in the Town of Tonawanda when he hit the 56-year-old man and left the scene.

The victim, who suffered injuries to his head and chest, spent several weeks at ECMC.

In August, Hicks admitted to leaving the scene of a serious physical injury incident without reporting — a class E felony.
