BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP MODIFIED) – Well-known rap artist DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, will spend the next six months in Erie County after being sentenced to serve time in the Erie County Holding Center.

Simmons, 44, was arrested right before his scheduled performance at Radio City Music Hall on June 26 in New York City for several “issues outstanding” according to a spokesman for the New York City Sheriff’s Office via WPIX-TV.

Those issues included $400,000 worth of unpaid child support, a warrant issued by the city of White Plains for bail jumping and a robbery complaint out of Newark, New Jersey. No charges have been filed in the Newark case.

The rapper was placed in the Erie County Holding Center on Tuesday, according to Erie County Sheriff’s Deputies, after Erie County Family Court Judge Deanne Trippi handed down the sentence for the rapper.

Simmons, who is most well known for songs he rapped from 1998 through 2003, has had a history of crime in Erie County, including over child support and traffic violations.
