SPRINGVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Erie County Sheriff's Office says a man with a sawed-off shotgun was shot by deputies overnight in Springville.
Deputies responded to the Country Fair store at Route 39 and S. Cascade Dr. around 10:20 p.m. on Sunday.
They say there were roughly 12 customers and employees in the store at the time. None of them were injured, even though the man with the gun discharged his weapon, deputies say.
When they arrived, deputies say the armed man left the store and confronted them. Although they gave the man multiple commands to drop the weapon, they say he did not.
Following this, the deputies fired their weapons at the man, later identified as 34-year-old Nicholas Krencik.
The Springville resident was taken to ECMC, where he is in critical condition. He has at least one bullet wound and required surgery.
Sources tell News 4 he has been formally charged with menacing a police officer, reckless endangerment and second and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
