OLEAN, N.Y. (WIVB) — A teacher at Olean High School has been fired after he was accused of sex crimes, the district confirmed Wednesday morning.
Robert Washington, 37, was terminated by the school board on Tuesday night, according to the school’s Superintendent. He was previously suspended with pay.
He faces felony and misdemeanor charges after someone filed a report against him alleging an inappropriate encounter between Washington and a child.
He was accused of first-degree sexual abuse and forcible touching. The alleged incident did not happen on school property, according to the Superintendent.
Washington, who is certified to teach in two states, taught social studies and worked with students with disabilities.
An Olean graduate, this had been Washington’s first year teaching at the school.
