BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Following an incident at a Batavia church service, a man has been arrested.

Batavia police say Bruce Sattelberg, 71, was attending a service at EverPresent Church at Batavia City Centre when he got up and left the sanctuary.

Upon returning about five minutes later, police say Sattelberg had an approximately one-year-old child with him.

The child’s parents were sitting a few aisles away. Police say that when the father noticed Sattelberg with his child, he approached Sattelberg and took his child.

Sattelberg then left the service, police say.

Authorities began to look for Sattelberg, and eventually took him into custody without incident.

Sattelberg was charged with second-degree unlawful imprisonment and was barred from EverPresent Church and its functions.

He’ll be back in court on June 18.
