Police: Woman drives around not knowing thief was sleeping in SUV

HAMBURG, N.Y. (WIVB) - Town of Hamburg police say a man has been charged after he was found sleeping in a woman's car.

Around 5:40 a.m. on Thursday morning, police say a woman got into her SUV to go to work. Although there were "a few things out of sorts," police say she did not immediately notice anything too different.

Police say the woman drove to get her morning coffee, but when she went to pay for it, the money that she kept in the vehicle was gone.

Along with this, police say the woman found some items that did not belong to her.

According to police, this is when she realized someone had got into her vehicle and stolen some items overnight.

The victim then called police, who told her to go to the station and report what happened.

At the station, an officer checked out the car. That's when they say Gregory Victor, 23, of Lackawanna, was found sleeping in the rear cargo area of the vehicle.

Police say he was there the whole time, and the victim had no idea of it.

He was charged with petit larceny and unauthorized use of a vehicle.

Victor was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center on $2,500 bail.
