State police: Man shoots dog “for no legitimate purpose”

An Allegany County man was arrested after New York State police say he shot a dog.

On Saturday, authorities went to Stryker Rd. in the Town of Amity after receiving a report that a dog had possibly been shot.

Troopers investigated, and they say the dog was shot “for no legitimate purpose.”

On Wednesday, Amity resident Marvin Wells, 64, was arrested. Authorities charged him with aggravated cruelty to animals.

Wells will be in court on May 2.

The dog will be brought to Southern Tier Animal Rescue Inc. (STAR) after he’s released from the hospital to be fostered until he’s well enough for adoption.
