Substitute teacher accused of assaulting child during summer program in Buffalo

Police say a substitute teacher has been charged with assaulting a child at Southside Elementary School.

According to officials, the teacher punched and choked a boy in the eighth grade at a summer program on Thursday.

Buffalo resident Mark Magavern, 31, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, assault and harassment.

The teacher has since been fired.
