A City of Tonawanda church’s cross caught fire on Sunday morning.
The City’s Fire Department said someone driving by Bethesda Full Gospel Tabernacle on Delaware called in that the cross was on fire around 9 a.m.
The fire was contained to the cross, which had to be taken down.
There was some other damage to drywall as firefighters were looking to see if the fire had extended inside the church.
The Fire Department estimates the damage done to the church is $2,500.
No one was injured in the fire.
The Fire Department says the cause is still under investigation but does not believe there was any maliciousness.
The last unit left the scene at 10:21 a.m.
The church held it’s 10:30 a.m. service soon afterwords.
