The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) rescued a skunk from a cup in Utica.

On August 24, the DEC says an officer received a call from a staff member at the city’s Hampton Inn. The caller told the DEC that a young skunk with an ice cream cup on its head had been running in circles in the parking lot.

The officer responded and asked the crowd at the scene to step back, the DEC says.

After this, the officer placed a towel over the animal and slowly took the cup off its head.

Right after it was freed, the DEC says the skunk sprayed and ran off. The animal was unharmed.
