Department of Transportation holds open house to discuss Skyway rehab


The New York State Department of Transportation hosted a community open house Wednesday discussing the traffic impacts of the bridge deck rehabilitation project on the Skyway.

Questions ranging from a tentative schedule, duration of the anticipated roadway closures and information on traffic detours were answered by the DOT.

This $29.8 million project will rehabilitate the concrete deck, including the replacement of bridge joints. Minor steel repairs will also be performed to ensure the safety of the skyway.

Construction begins this month, and the target completion date is summer of 2020.

Officials say this particular traffic control pattern was designed to cause minimum disruption to traffic during construction.  A portion of the Skyway will be open to traffic throughout the duration of the project. 

Detours will be established for inbound and outbound traffic and for traffic diverted by the closure of ramps.
