BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A City of Buffalo representative said a BB gun was found in a student’s bag at St. Lawrence Academy Thursday morning.
The gun was found in the bag of a 16-year-old girl, officials said. For a brief period of time, the school, which is located on St. Lawrence Avenue, went into lockdown.
Buffalo Public Schools later released a statement on the matter:
“The Buffalo Public School District’s safety protocols worked to protect the safety of our students and staff. Earlier today, Academy School (PS #131) administrators worked with the Buffalo Police and District staff to confiscate a BB gun from a student. At no time was the BB gun used to threaten or harm others. It is extremely important for families to discuss with their children that it is against the law to bring any type of contraband, including a weapon of any type, to school and to reinforce the importance of reporting anything suspicious to the appropriate officials.”
