EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – An El Paso police officer is recovering in the ICU after he was hit while escorting a funeral procession Thursday morning.
As KTSM reported, it happened at about 10 a.m. near Zaragoza and Rosenn.
Police say the 13-year veteran of the department was traveling north on Zaragoza when a woman allegedly cut through the procession and ran over the officer.
According to a news release, another officer in the procession and a good Samaritan pulled the officer from the car and performed CPR.
Officials say he is in critical but stable condition.
According to police, cutting through a funeral procession and failure to yield the right of way are factors in the crash.
