BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The owner of a local gas station is saddled with a large bill after he was convicted of evading taxes from the sale of gas in Erie County.

Officials announced Mogeeb Nagi, the former owner of the Excell Fuels station in Lackawanna, pleaded guilty to felony second degree grand larceny and felony third degree criminal tax fraud.

Nagi admitted he defrauded the government of $124,000 in tax revenue due to the New York State Department of Finance between June of 2008 and November of 2009.

Eric Schneiderman’s office pursued the case and said they will continue to take aggressive action against businesses and individuals that fail to pay their taxes.

As part of the plea deal, Nagi was sentenced to repaying the $124,000 and serving five years of probation. Thus far, Nagi has paid back $20,000.
